Observing and Predicting Planetary Orbits `

NOTE: Several years ago, I first wrote and posted this
article describing how ancient astronomers watched and
predicted the planetary orbits with admirable accuracy,
i.e. namely, the naked-eye visible planets in sidereal
order: 1) The Moon; 2) Mercury; 3) Venus; 4) The Sun;
5) Mars; 6) Jupiter; 7) Saturn, and 8) Uranus, to wit
all against the background of naked-eye visible stars.

Ah, at last I've found how far back one must go to be denoted as an
"ancient astronomer". It seems to be no farther back than 1781, as that
is the year in which Uranus was discovered, by accident, by William
Herschel.
