This eclipse appears to be not doable. Grise fiord on Ellesmere Island
looks to be the only place to access that will be well within the path of totality. The only way to get there is by private charter. http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~jander/tot2008/nunavut.png |

Yup, this is like the Antarctic one of a few years ago where your best bet is a
charter plane flight. Even with the artic summer in full swing, this one is for the hardly ones. --- Dave Nakamoto -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pinprick holes in a colorless sky Let inspired figures of light pass by The Mighty Light of ten thousand suns Challenges infinity, and is soon gone "Mike" Miker@Good God y'alll.net wrote in message news:jNzVf.5242$Ph4.2372@edtnps90... Also, the path seems to cross a number of islands and even part of the mainland, no? Doesn't matter to me. The word "arctic" eliminates me. I can't deal with temperatures below about 95F in August. There is an ice hotel too that features polar bear rugs and beds with Iqualuit maids. Seal meat is the main dish along with free trapping and seal hunting lessons. |

With so much of the Arctic Ocean now open in the summer, I wonder if
some cruise lines will offer eclipse excursions? Can we can get a SAA group discount if we wear our t-shirts? And get some of that companionship that Starlord was talking about? I'm in! Errol |

What's the phone number for reservations? I need it so I can put it on /my/ do-not-call list. Though the beds being equipped with maids sounds interesting... Those waters are navigable at that time of year, and my understanding is that eclipse cruises are commercial successes. It doesn't have to be a huge ship, after all. And plenty of people enjoy arctic cruising, even without an eclipse. I wouldn't be surprised to find some eclipse cruises scheduled- it is the easiest access to the area. I agree to a point. There is a LOT of sea area in the whole path of the eclipse right into Russia |
