Default Lenses and apochromatic-ism

How critical is it to have telescope accessories that are apochromatic
if one *does not* intend to do photography?

I ask because, and maybe it's because I have not done any *quality*
observing, I have yet to experience any color in the eyepiece beyond
the Martian tint.

OTOH, I have seen much color in images...

As I do not intend to do photography, should this specification be a
consideration? Would not want to spend extra for quality outside the
capabilities of the human eye.... Wasted quality, sort of speak...

TIA,
Errol
