Default Eyepiece question

I may have too many eyepieces for my XT-12, 1500mm focal length, f4.9.

Included in my eyepieces are a 10mm Radian and a 5mm Nagler Type 6, and, a
TV 2X Barlow.

Do I need the 5mm, or, will the 10mm with Barlow provide the same results?
Views through the 5mm are really crisp and bright -- will I lose anything
with the Barlow?

Thanks.

I would go with a 12mm ortho from UV for planets and a 17mm telvue, that's
the main two I use.

You'd lose a bit of brightness with the extra glass in the barlow used in
conjunction with the 10mm Radian but...the eye relief would be pretty much
maintained so it's kind of a toss up. ;^)

Why not do an A:B comparison of the two arrangements? It may depend on
the scope to some extent, since at f/4.9 it is pretty fast. Plus the
Radian and Naglers have other differering characteristics.

If the Nagler is surplus, you can likely get a good price for it at
Astromart :-)

Go to a star party try a 5mm Nagler and compare it someone's 10mm Radian in
a 2x Barlow. No wait. You actually have this stuff. I know, try using
them first, then decide.

In the end, unless you need money for food, you can't accumulate enough
astro stuff...

Thanks, Doink. I knew that (a friend here in saa also ordered one).
Problem is that I need to use glasses when I observe (substantial
astigmatism) and the 4.8 Nagler is not good in that regard due to short
eye relief. My shorter (4 mm and 10 mm) EPs are Vixen Lanthanums with
20 mm eye relief, for that reason.

But $95 for a Nagler is quite a deal for those who can use one!

Hi Phil...I've got the same problem but I'vefound that high powers correct
it. So the big A isn't a problem above 90X for me...have you tried skipping
the glasses on high powers? Just curious...

Maybe .. though I counted a few weeks ago and came up with 8
(telescopes). Too many, and now I'm down to seven.

But I am buying two new EPs tomorrow :-)
