Ordered an XT-12 Intelliscope today -- Orion says 5-7 days for delivery.
I'll start watching for the FedEx truck tomorrow morning.

Just watch the sky. You'll get non-stop clouds and rain/snow when a
new telescope arrives.

Are you up for suggestions from the group for a first light object? I
suggest M31. The moon shouldn't be much of a factor in 5 to 7 days if you
get out just after astronomical twilight.

No. The clouds rain/snow don't start until he opens the box and lets
them out.

Hi:

Count yourself very lucky. In March of 1994 I ordered one of Meade's
then new StarFinder 12.5 inch Dobsonians. It arrived the day before
Miss Dorothy and I got married, 4 SEPTEMBER. Good scope for a dobbie,
though. ;-)

Peace,

Rod:

How did you and yours make it through this hurricane season?

You probably have read my posts here about our experiences. We moved to Bay
Saint Louis in January 2005 and started construction on a house in July.
Katrina changed everything -- flooded our apartment with near total loss,
destroyed the town where we were building, and destroyed everything we had
in storage. Go to www.schlatter.org and click on the link to our Katrina
experience.

I'm buying the XT-12 to replace my XT-8 and ETX-90. My web site has a
really ugly photo of the ETX-90 lying in the mud in the apartment floor.

We moved back to East Tennessee -- likely will put the Gulf Coast lot up for
sale next summer, meanwhile, we are looking for property in western North
Carolina.

That was back when Dobs were pretty rare, I think. My first, in 1990,
was a 10 inch made by Coulter when they were still in Idyllwild, CA. I
ordered it and four months later drove out (from the beach area) and
brought it home in the back of my little Honda CRX. Optics were good,
but the rocker box, focuser, etc. left lots to be desired compared to
today's mass-produced Dobs. I sold it and now have a 10" OPT (GS) dob
which is much more refined mechanically. But I use it so little that I
will likely sell it, too; the skies here do not support it and I tend to
travel with my smaller scopes and/or big binos; guess I have
"anti-aperture" fever (or maybe just "lazy fever") :-)

Hmm .. I wonder where he lives? Maybe I should repair my roof before
his new scope comes :-)

That's the size scope that should be out in the High Mojave Desert.
