Royal Rangers 11/16/05

I was picked up about 5:30pm and he drove me down to
their church, which is in what used to be a store in
a major shop place kind of on the north side of Palmdale
just north of Plant 42.

Set up the scope out back, not much better than my
spot in Rosamond as the building has those lights
glowing yellow mounted on the back side which flood the
field with light.

They where inside doing their church thing while I set
up and alined the scope and got ready for them.

When they came out I had a line of some 30 scounts
and a few non-scouts too. They ranged from maybe 5year olds
to early teens and a few grown ups too.

First viewing was the moon, with my moon filter and the
light blue filter stacked on they got a good view via
a 17 mm telvue. At lest two or three of the younger kids
had some very good questions too.

Once everyone had seen the Moon, I removed the filters and
moved over to Mars and that was more work as I had to keep
the planet in view and once more answering questions too.

It was near their closeing time when they all had to go
inside and I packed everything up. I was taken home and
we had a good talk about the night and it looks like
this kind of event with some inside talking first, will
be going on some more.

All in all, a good night.

Considering the many hours you've patiently sat at your corner, the
Royal Rangers meeting must have been real gratifying!

Yes it was, I've always enjoyed talking to other kids and shairing what I
know. Only up here in Rosamond, if it's not part of football nothing is
done. I've talked to the local scout masters and that's all it amounted too.

Plus there was two of the yonger ones, I'd say about 7 years old, that asked
questions that I had to go into great details on the answers. The people in
this trailer park have learned never to ask me anything as I love going into
details, and when I do they pack up and run.

All total there was someplace between 30 to 45 kinds and older folks at the
going on. And as they are now going after their rocketry badge, I can offer
even more to them as I have been flying model rockets since 1966.

It looks like that maybe Nov.30th might be another night.
