Do you guys still use green laser pointers? I have been paranoid ever since
some idiot got arrested several years ago for pointing a laser pointer at a plane.Someone may call the police and make false accusations. It is unfortunate because green laser pointers are a great teaching tool and also work well as a finder. Do you guys think that I am overly paranoid? -mij |

![]() Yes. You are :-) But use them cautious - they CAN be harmful, even the weaker ones. Use those that will only be on when you press a button and keep it pressed. -- observer Bernhard Rems Editor - 'The Astronomers' (http://theastronomers.com) Vienna/Austria ------------------------------------------------------------------------ observer's Profile: http://theastronomers.com/vb3/member.php?userid=1 View this thread: http://theastronomers.com/vb3/showthread.php?t=834 |

I've got a 5 mW green laser (legal in US) and it's really a neat little toy. It IS useful for pointing out things in the sky, especially stars and constellations. They also make really excellent scope pointers if you can find a way to mount the laser on the scope. I'm still trying to figure out how to do that. Works well with an alt-az mounted scope, finder wise. -Eric B |

I think they are great tools for showing novices the constellations and the night sky (different from use for a finder). None of hand-waving, and "see just there by the tree, above the power line" type descriptions for pointing out objects. Should be handled properly, and there should be no worry. |

Oh horse-****! They are not harmful. That was just the media and those
involved blowing the whole f-ing thing out of proportion and a bunch of stupid lemmings believing everything they hear. "observer" wrote in message news ![]() Yes. To mount the laser on the scope look at:
http://www.skypointer.net/brktfr.html This is probably only one of several sources for providing an attachment. There are probably others. Or you can make your own bracket. |
