Is there such a thing ?
Something like the Radio Amateurs exam, the kind of thing one could study at home and then teach to students. giving astronomy lessons sound cool :-) (ps I have a maths HND and a basic teaching certificate ) |

For those that NEED to have some kind of a paper cert hanging on their wall,
they can always hook up with their local club and do a M. marathon and get that. Otherwise most am.astronomers are happy doing whatever they do and they have their scopes to show for it. Myself I'm a Sidewalk Astronomy and the Ahh's, Wow's, I hear from people when they view something like Saturn, etc. are as good if not better that some paper cert which I wouldn't hang up anyway. Why must Am.Astronomy be something to " WORK " at? makes no sence at all. I'd rather take my scope out and view the sun than watch a boring football game. Oh ya, TROLL. -- The Lone Sidewalk Astronomer of Rosamond Telescope Buyers FAQ http://home.inreach.com/starlord Astronomy Net Online Gift Shop http://www.cafepress.com/astronomy_net |

Something like the Radio Amateurs exam, Communicating by radio is a public activity, one that's subject to governmental regulations or licensing in most countries, so there's more reason to certify the participants than there is for amateur astronomy. the kind of thing one could study at home and then teach to students. giving astronomy lessons sound cool :-) (ps I have a maths HND and a basic teaching certificate ) There's no 'official' certifying body for such things -- see above -- but many clubs offer observing certificates. The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, for example, offers general, Messier-object, selected NGC, and lunar certificates. See http://www.rasc.ca/observing/home.html. -- Odysseus |
