And then I got to thinking about the talks I would like to hear and started putting together a list with some friends. Now I thought I'd toss it out here to see what ideas you all have. So, if you were attended a space-related function, who would you like to hear and why? Let's keep the list constrained to those still alive (I think my list below is consistent with this), but no speaker to small or too big! Here's some ideas I'll toss out that we've been kicking around (in no particular order). I'll leave out my opinions, at least for now, some I like more than others. 1. Neil Armstrong 2. Buzz Aldrin 3. Steve Jobs 4. Burt Rutan 5. Paul Allen 6. Charles Yeager 7. Admiral Gehman 8. James Cameron 9. Mike Griffin 10. James Lovell 11. Gene Kranz 12. James Oberg 13. Chris Kraft 14. Robert Zubrin 15. Dennis Jenkins 16. Jerry Linenger 17. George Abbey 18. Ken Illif 19. Murray and Cox 20. R. Sagdeev 21. Keith Cowing 22. Spaceship One Pilots 23. Sy Leibergot That's a pretty good list. I see by the inclusion of Steve Jobs that we're not restricted to aerospace. Are there any areas you would put off limits? My choices as of today, in no particular order: [1] Arnauld Nicogossian http://policy.gmu.edu/people/nicogossian.html George "Pinky" Nelson http://www.nwrel.org/nwedu/10-03/nelson/ James M. Beggs http://www.biographybase.com/biograp...s_James_M.html Harrison Schmitt http://www.spacecoretech.org/schmitt.html Robert Bigelow http://www.bigelowaerospace.com/news.html Paul Allen [2] http://www.paulallen.com/default.asp...ue&contentId=1 Joe Allen http://www.depauw.edu/news/index.asp?id=12780 Franklin Chang-Diaz http://www.space-explorers.org/bios/chang.html Jimmy Carter (on the nuclear navy & commercial nuclear power [3]) http://www.boston.com/news/local/con...sake_on_board/ (Sorry 'bout the line-wrap...) http://www.cartercenter.org/news/mediacenter.htm Michael Collins http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Collins_(astronaut) Geoff Baehr, Clark Chapman, Dan Durda, Piet Hut, Edward Tsang Lu, or Rusty Schweickart http://www.b612foundation.org/about/welcome.html [1] Some of these may be unwilling to speak, for various reasons. [2] You can ask him about SpaceshipOne; I'll ask about the Allen Telescope Array... :-) [3] I wouldn't mind much if he went off-topic. |
