Default Back from Albuquerque

Gosh, what a trip. Continuing Education can certainly be a pain in the ass.

Visited the VLA. Started snowing when I got there, just like it did 10 years
ago.

Visited Stennis Space Center on the way back. Big changes since my last
visit in 1997, mostly due to 9/11. Still worth the trip. They have a shuttle
suit on display in the "For All Mankind" setting. The rain cranked up so I
couldn't see the Mars settlement. Free tour starting from the Mississippi
Welcome Center.

Took a picture of the road sign on I-25, future location of New Mexico
Spaceport. The local flora and fauna didn't seem to be too concerned about
moving any time soon.

Visited the National Atomic Museum in its new location. They lost all the
exterior exhibits except one rocket, probably because the B-52 alone took up
as much space as the Museum has now. It's among several local museums, so
while it did lose some displays, it's in a better position to get visitors.
The negotiations to move to the Balloon Park seem to be going nowhere.

Visited several Veterans Memorials. Arrived too late to see the Seabees
Museum in Gulfport. Picked up a copy of Rick Husband's wife's book for under
$4.

Missed ya, OM. Looking forward to meeting Adrienne. For some reason, once I
crossed over Houston, bellsouth.net kept redirecting to
bellsouth.com/internet (when it didn't simply disconnect me), where they
tried to sell me services I already get. Nothing I could do would let me
check my mail once I got past Houston. I thought the Internet was
everywhere. At least my Yahoo mail worked. Still, at least I know my
cellphone works fine as a modem.

Filled up a 256MB compactflash card, and an additional 8MB card. Had to buy
a couple of disposable cameras at Stennis. My laptop is choking on
downloading that many pictures and videos- 606 on one and 21 on the other.

....I was in SA for most of the weekend it turned out, and for some
reason my e-mail wasn't getting forwarded to the laptop copy of
Outlook, so I didn't get any of your mails until today as a matter of
fact.

....As for Adrianna, her stuff is coming down shortly, as she's retired
from the business, alas. Less said about that the less depressed I'll
get.

....I sort of solved that problem as follows:

1) Bought a total of six 256mb cards. If you buy the 512mbs or higher,
there's something about flash memory that after you exceed 384mb, they
start to write slower and slower and slower. With 256mb cards, I fill
them up faster, but then again it's 60-65 images per disk at 1600ASA
at the fat JPEG setting. I never use RAW, as it get me nothing extra
of importance. Unless I really want individual strands of hair to
stand out amongst each other, and I rarely need that kind of detail.

2) I take along my oldest notebook, which has a ****ty 12" LCD.
However, it also has two PCMCIA ports which I shove a pair of CF
adapters in, and dump the contents on a 20gb HD in the Media Bay in
the front. The notebook is usually strapped to my back or ported
around by one of my younger brothers, and when I reach the fourth CF
being full, I start dumping. Notebook only stays on as long as I'm
dumping CFs, so the **** Dell batteries usually last about 20-25
dumps, which is as far as I've gone without saying "**** it, let's
grab a Dr. Pepper" and let the damn thing recharge. I suspect I'll get
more if pressed.

....With the OH coming up in a month, I'm looking at picking up a
couple more CF cards, although I'm also thinking about seeing if I can
find a couple of old model Creative Labs MP3 players. Those used to
contain 4GB CF-port micro HDs, and they were dumping those damn things
for half the cost of the drives not too long ago, and they can easily
be formatted.

Anyone going to the JSC OH next month, for that matter?

There comes the time in every stripper's life when she realizes it's
time to quit the business- in most cases this is when they realize that
they've reached the age where their stuff is shortly going to be coming
down. ;-)

P.S. Did you change your email address? I sent you a email, but it came
back. Also, you must have changed the address of your website when you
updated it, as that isn't where it used to be either.
Could you email me with the new info?

You're right. The upgrade looks great, but the links are broken - looks
like a javascript error.

When the month clicks around I'll have a good look around (my cable will be
normal speed and not 'shaped' grr.)

"I want data on Apollo-Soyuz!" said Pat, knowing full well he was really
looking for racy pictures of strippers before they were removed. :-)

I thought the idea of pictures of strippers was seeing them *after*
things had been removed...

Nah, pics of fully-clothed strippers are much kinkier

THe problem was the interface- I had to download via the camera.

The floppy drive in my laptop stopped working, and the one in my main
desktop unit fails intermittently (and both spares didn't work, either), so
I went to Office Depot and got a "DataStation" USB floppy/card reader combo.
Shows up as 5 drives, and I can use it on either machine. Takes seconds to
download now, as opposed to around 20 minutes through the camera.
