Nothing new about that and Google. Been around for years on other sites.

Phone books with addresses have been around for many many decades. Now
they are online. Quicker, but I'm not sure how this is related to
amateur astronomy unless you need directions to a club members dark
back yard for an observing session.

That's nothing. You can do the same with driver's licenses.

removed or blocked.

Before forwarding this, I tested it by typing my telephone number in
Google.com. My phone number came up, and when I clicked on the
MapQuest link, it actually mapped out where I live.

Please look up your own number. Read below for details. Think about it
- if a child, gives out his/her phone number to someone they can
actually now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety
issues are obvious.

In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to:
http://www.google.com/

Type your phone number in the search bar (i.e. 555-555-1212, with or
without spaces or dashes) and hit enter.

If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information,
simply click on your phone number. Removal takes 48-hours.

If you are unlisted in the phone book, you might not be in there, but
it is a good idea just to check.

And then you have to do thge same thing with whitepages.com,
peoplefinder.com, all the other sites that provide the same
information, your local phone company, the other phone companies
that are operating in your town, etc, etc, etc...

Will not fall for that one chum. Fools are born every minute, but I
was born a few minutes before that.

I knew aobut the addresses and phine nmbers, but ther was a lot of talk
on Internet about this supposed new Google feature. No problem with me.

I think my post was scatched along with some cross poster and somehow
it ended up here. But, is see so little astronomy related subjects
here that that too is okay with me. I used to think a little astronomy
would squeak by on saa but not no mo bro.
