Can anyone tell me if there is a planetarium program on the net
that could find all the variable stars of declination 70degrees N and brighter than mag 6.0 Zinc -- To reply to address don't click. Cut and paste, then delete all digits ------------------------------------ |

I don't know about an on-line free program but SkyTools can generate a
nice list. You can also search for a special variable star class, amplitude and period. Download and install the program (free), and also the RTGUI version of the General Catalog of Bright Stars (this is on the Yahoo Group for RTGUI, you'll have to "join" the group to download it). Tell the program that you're at the North Pole (i.e., you're Santa Claus). You'll have to make that 89 deg, 59.99 mins (it won't accept 90). Click "detailed search", tell it that your search name is * (all entries in the catalog), specifying an altitude of at least 70 degrees, and a magnitude of at least 6. After it gives you the first one, press "save matches", and voila you have your list. www.rtgui.com -- Robert Sheaffer - User name "Roberto" at debunker-dot-com Skeptical to the Max!
