This Russian telescope with the collapsible tube OTA reminds me , when I had
a my first refractor an Edscorp 3" f/15.
It was a long tube, compare to the small aperture, I was thinking, how can I
make this long tube collapsible to travel size.
Other than drawing a few scatches, never got further in designing it. Later,
few times it popped in my mined the same idea, when I've seen these large,
bulky 5-6" refractors, if some one would build it collapsible or screw
together by pieces.
First refractor I've seen is the Borg design, screw together OTA body and
interchangeable parts from one size to another.
Now this Russian 130mm APO.
Interesting, refractors been around so long, built heavy and bulky compare
to it's small aperture, but the tubes were made one solid piece most of the
time.
Hope it will change!

My very first refractor was a Kaleidoscope. It tossed up loads of
color, but as a kid I thought the world of it. :-)
