Given the brains, experience, and backing involved in doing Space Ship One,
it has occured to me to wonder if there is any real control problem. How many people in the world can match Burt Rutan in vehicle design and fabrication? " " " " " " " " Mike Melville on the flight controls? " " " " " " " " Paul Allen in financial ability? Since I can number the people that can do the matching on the fingers of either foot, I suggest an alternate explanation for the apparent control problems. Branson, Allen, Rutan and company want as much lead as possible in the space tourist arena. If people of that stature are having control problems, how can a group with lesser experience, skill, and finance be expected to do better without compelling proof? Mike deliberately induced the planned rolls to make the competition spend even more time in analysis to make sure they don't have the same problem. Also, when they are seeking funding, the question changes from "if NASA can't do it...," to "if Burt has problems...." how do you expect to succeed? They are trying to keep the market cornered for an extra year or three while the competition chases a mirage of a problem. Don't take this seriously of course, just having fun. My birthday present to me. |

My birthday present to me. Ok, this is a joke I think. Otherwise you do not have your brains in gear. What does the control problems of the SS1 have in common with the X-prize designs or Armadillio, Canadian Arrow, Da Vinci, ARCA and other leading x-prize groups? As far as I can tell not! When BR makes a design it usually is so diffirent from everyone's elses that it must be judged by it's own standards only. Earl Colby Pottinger -- I make public email sent to me! Obviously not a very good joke if I have to point out the smiley in the subject line and the last sentence in the post. When BR makes a design it usually is so diffirent from everyone's elses that it must be judged by it's own standards only. For intellegent people like youself, this is true. For dain bramaged conspiracy theorists, the disconnect is not so obvious. It is clear that the next time I cook up a conspiracy theory, I will have to throw in considerably more gobbledygook to cover points such as you raised. Opps, the newsreader I use (BeNews) shows the text in the subject line in a very small font. I did not see the smiley at all. Look on the bright side, I fell for it hook, line and sinker. Now you know that there always is a fool on one type or another in these newsgroups. And today it is me. Earl Colby Pottinger -- I make public email sent to me! You all believe that Space Ship 1 actually flew to 100 km and returned. It is all a fraud and a conspiracy that the media is complicit in to sensationalize the news. There is no more reason to believe that Space Ship 1 flew to 100 km and back than to believe that man actually landed on the Moon. I will stand by this statement! (OK, If you can take this one seriously you are in real trouble) Mike Walsh |
