Here's a larger photo of the VAB damage from Yahoo News:

That still doesn't do much to depict 40,000 square feet of missing
panels.

Why has NASA been so slow to release photos of the VAB damage?
Is there some national security issue here?

It's probably difficult to get into a good location to see the damage
in perspective. That area's crawling with Reptiles, and the only ones
that aren't poisonous are the alligators.
And since they haven't had the leaving from the Comissary to snack on,
the 'gators are most likely pretty hungry 'bout now.

What was that little mnemonic trick? "Red touched Yellow, run away.
Red touches black, run away."
Works for me.

Isn't it: "Red on yeller, nice little feller;
Red on black, stay away Jack."?
or is it... the other way... :-\

I favor the "BC" Fat Broad's approach: Wham them all
to pulp with a large club. ;-)

Special Forces are often denigrated by Regular Army types.
In Vietnam, they were called "snake eaters"...

A retired SF friend told me the comeback was "Not true -- snakes
are our friends....they eat the rats..."

Just so. It could be worse, however. At least they don't have the
Great Northern Snow Snake, the only reptile capable of functioning in
sub-zero temeratures. (Actually, it functions only in sub-zero
temperatures.) With their protective coloration of white patches on a
white background, and their habit of emerging only when the snow is
over 6" (150mm) deep, tey are rarely seen. The only reason that they
haven't overrun the Boreal Regions of out fair planet can be accounted
for by two factors: 1) They only come out when its so cold that
reasonable people are inside, and
2) They only mate once per year. This normally wouldn't be a problem,
but the GNSS (Which is also its call - you can hear it as you tramp
through the North Woods with the temperature at -20 (F or C, it
doesn't matter) is a) Exclusively heterosexual, and b) Extremely
nearsighted. Since the mating season is so short, a male GNSS will
aggressively try to mate with any passing GNSS. This most often leads
to mis-identification, and several hours of the Herptetological
equivalant of "Oh my! So sorry, old man!".

The GNSS is extremely venomous, and the venom is so quick acting that
post-bite treatment is impossible. Ethanol is, however prophylactic
against the venom, and is used as protection against the bite of the
Great Northern Snow Snake by Woodsmen and Snomobilers, who require
frequent stops to replenish.
