Iv'e been working my nuts off (forgive expression) by arranging a public
viewing of the Transit next month. Our local Target newspaper is very supportive and gave us a good write up in preparation and then they screw it up by writing (in the first small paragraph) that this is a very rare ASTROLOGICAL event!! Can this really be? Have i been misled by this NG and astrology is really true?? Please don't say yes!! Seriously though, don't they ever read their transcripts? Martin A a dissapointed nutless astronomer I've been asked by my manager (delegator) to re-design and deploy a website for an astrology and prediction site. *rolls eyes* I think I'm stretching my "professional capacity" to the limit on this one! Just wandering around the place singing "Where are you now Ophiuchus?" under my breath could start a holywar. ;o) Cheers, Jim |

I predict that a few folk with eye damage may result from looking at the sun with unfiltered optical devices. Seriously though, don't they ever read their transcripts? Probably not. Post title "Extremely rare "astrological" event..." http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...ace_venus_dc_2 Spare a thought for the poor hacks though. Astro-logy / -nomy is an oddball. They *may* have been trying to get it right - study of most other subjects is X-logy : Aerology, Biology, Cytology, Cosmology, Dendrology, Ecology, Geology, Horology, Immunology, Lithology, Meteorology, Mycology, Neurology, Ontology, Psychology, Physiology, Petrology, Radiology, Sociology, Theology, Tribology, Urology, Virology, Vulcanology, Xylology, Zoology... F,J,K,Q,W,Y escape a casual alphabetic list - any offers? Where-as the subjects named X-nomy are very thin on the ground: Agronomy, Astronomy, Economy, Gastronomy, Physiognomy, Taxonomy Astronomy is the only exact science lumped in with this motley crew. FWIW I was once reported to have obtained an astrology O'level too ;-) Regards, -- Martin Brown |

(See the zetatalk troll) I do suppose though if you can have Japanology and Koreanology as studies of Japanese and Korean culture respectively, you could theoretically also have Qatarology, Walesology and Yemenology? But technically Wales isn't even a country. Marcus |

I do suppose though if you can have Japanology and Koreanology as studies of Japanese and Korean culture respectively, you could theoretically also have Qatarology, Walesology and Yemenology? My (ancient) dictionary didn't have them in, but I think some of the other k*-logy's did look OK. I did find serendipitously in the same section "kakistocracy" which is a perfect handle for the current US Bush administration ;-) There is also "scientology", the study of L Ron Hubbard's bank account.
