Default etx 125

Is the Meade ETX 125 worth the money? I am seriously thinking of buying this
scope just for backyard astronomy something that can be easily transported
if the need arises or set up quickly. Many thanks for your advice. I am
situated in London.

Steve

Its certainly worth the money if it works as it should. My only advice would
be to buy locally so you can deal with any problems quickly. (See above
post)

They are nice little scopes with portability being their strongest point.
However I would think you could find a local astro club with a member or two
who owns one. That would give you a look through for yourself. You might
love it, but you also might decide to go up to an 8" SCT (or something else)

I decided the extra £300 for the 125 wasn't worth it, and got the 105 instead
about two months ago.
Once I'd got mis-information matters sorted out (such as one of Meade's photos
showing the 'scope mounted wrong way round on its dedicated tripod), and other
conflicts in the so-called manuals supplied with the kit, I was away. It helped
an awful lot when I realised that my wearing spectacles was reducing the
effective field-of-view of the finder to 2 deg. rather than the 7 deg quoted by
Meade. Since then I've found the alignment stars, and GoTo and tracking etc.
(after training) have been excellent. Buying a car jump starter with a 12v 18AH
lead-acid battery on-board was a good £30 investment.

Pity about the bright skies around here...
