Default Most expensive telescope?

I think it is around $100million. Though nothing preventing some fool if
they want to spend more lol. Unfortunately though, chances are though such
scope will for practical purpose become public since nice places to put them
would be top of some mountain or something.... as well as need to spend few
million per year for up keep etc. And of course for few tens of thousands
20"+ scopes can be custom built....Kind of ridiculous but some people buy
$1m car 8-)

I would guess that scope will be built on one of crator of the moon when
robotics mature in next 20-50 years. Also, there might be desire to get
scope that orbits sun.... or perhaps on jupitor's moon so that binocular
vision can be used eventually.

What is the most expensive telescope for consumers / amateur
astronomy? I'd just like to know out of curiosity.

Also, is there a web site that has information on an ultimate space
telescope design that hasn't been built and what could be done with it
if it were built?

Hi,

The most expensive brand name telescope, but available to any big budget
for 'amateur', I found the Starmaster télescope, follow this url...

http://www.starmastertelescopes.com/

This url for pricing of 14" to 28" scope.
http://www.starmastertelescopes.com/...uss-scopes.htm

All scope over 30" for amateur (i think) must be home made, or
made-to-measure like any professionnal telescope.

Enjoy! and dream!
Eric

For small scopes, try some of the Takahashi models. Easily double the
price of the ones above.
Seriously though, the 'sky is the limit'. Look at the TMB254 ($39990),
then realise there are two models above this (POA), and that a mount is
extra.

Best Wishes

I think the RCOS telescopes are among the most expensive-yet-reachable-for-amateurs
telescopes...

I believe the newest 20" Celestron will be priced at $39,000.

Surely you jest:-) Takahashi has a 10" refractor and mount setup
for $490,000. It's in the "observatory" series. Telescope.com had
it featured for awhile, but it's gone now. There is a Tak reflector
going for close to 300K that is still up.

Looking at that 10" refractor, it didn't look too big, because they
didn't put a man up next to it. I'd imagine it is 7 or 8 feet long though.
Man, the chicks I could get with that thing. It would compliment my
7 or 8 inch wang:-)
