Today I removed the main mirror cell and the secondary mirror too.
I've had a bit of trouble with the mirror shifting or saging on it's mount when ever I turned the ota to give someone a view that couldn't reach it. Today I got 3 plastic screws and because they where a bit smaller that the holes in the tangs by the mirror, I got a plastic nut for each one. I then put the screw threw the nut and held the nut on the tang until the screw just pressed on the mirror, I did this with all three, I then covered the nut inner side and screw end with jb weld and stuck them on. They are now afixed and they keep the mirror from shifting. I also cleaned the mirror while it was out. I then cut a 2inch strip of sono tube from my left over section ( 6ft worth ) and put it inside the rear and the main mirror cell screws go threw that now and this keeps the end from being pulled inward. After cleaning the secondary and making a small change of hole with one support arm I have it installed. After spending an hour of getting the scope alined I now belive that I'm going to have to undo the focuer and move it up the tube by another one inch, to get a image of Jupiter I have to pull the 2in to 1.25in adapter almost all the way up and put my EP in with it's end just bearly past the set screw that holds it in. And this is with the main mirror adjustment bolts NOT tighted all the way up and then backed off as I had before. -- Dragons Must Fly when Thread's in the Sky www.starlord.org |
