The TeleVue web site recommends that a 2" barlow not be insterted into a
Paracorr, as it may contact and scratch the topmost element. I assume this advice is directed to owners of the Big Barlow. This begs the question: How much distance is there from the top flange of a Paracorr (with the tunable top all the way down) to the top lens element? I've just ordered an Antares 2" 1.6X, which Antares efers to as a "2" shorty Barlow", and I was wondering if it might fit into a Visual Paracorr without fear of hitting the top lens element. I don't have a Paracorr yet, and I haven't taken delivery of the 2" Antares barlow yet, so I can't offer any barlow measurements. I just got the Antares Shorty 2" barlow, and the shoulder to tip masurement for the field end is exactly 40mm, so if the depth holds at 45mm, this is a go for safe insert, and will also be my que to go ahead and get a Visual Paracorr. Is yours the Visual only unit? Is yours the Visual only unit? Yes. Visual only. Tunable Top. Most eyepieces use the second notch outward which gives you more clearance. The lens element seems curved the other way than what I was concerned about. That is, it appears to be higher in the middle than at the edge. I'd say you're good to go, but, well, you know Larry, in the end, you're on your own. g Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine. |
