Default Observing Table

Last night I joined a local amateur astronomer. He basically helped me
with my telescope and doing some observing.

One of the things he brought with him what I thought was a table. But
looking at it was a storage case for his star charts.

It was around 24" x 24" (may have been bigger) and made of plywood. He
said he found plans for it on the net.

Does anyone know of something like this?

Thanks,

Bill

You mean something like this one?

Looks pretty intriguing, I may have to see about putting something like it
together for myself.

There are a number of other possibilities, just do a Google search for
"Observing Table" I found these two in the first 10 finds.

Default Observing Table

Harry,

Thanks for the links.

This one is close to the one he had. This one he had was alot thinner.
The one in the Link is 6" and the one I saw was not the tall.

But the thing I like I can take some of these Observing Table and come
up with a design of my own.

Thanks,

Bill

Do a search for an artist's wooden sketch box, like this one:
http://www.allartsupplies.com/item.php?articleId=1245

Not quite the size you are looking for, but there are other manufacturers
and sizes out there.

Thanks John for the link. This also gives me some ideas.

Now that I remember his box was something like in the link. Actually
what he did was he bought the Sky Atlas 2000.0 Deluxe the big red book
version. Then he carefully took out the pages and had them laminated.
With the Map Charts back to back to each other. Then the box he made
was a bit bigger then that.

These links give me some ideas of building my own box/table.

That is why I included several plus the words I used for the search, I
figured that you probably would find that not one would have all the features
you need but could pick and choose as you felt would fit your needs.

But the thing I like I can take some of these Observing Table and come

Yes, as long as you have to build it yourself you can just check out a number
of them and come up with a design that includes most, if not all, of your
required needs.

Thanks,

No problem at all, it got me to go out and check up on what designs are out
there, I need to build one myself soon, that it helped you is just a nice
extra.

Have fun, watch out for splinters. ;-)

And thank you, this is another possible source I had not thought of. I
probably will build my own, but the wider the possibilities before starting
the better.
