Cleaning eyepieces

I need your help quickly! I borrowed a friends eyepiece that he said
was real good. After using it for a few nights, I noticed that there
were some smudges and dust on it. Not wanting to get in trouble with
my friend, I brought it to the lab and sonicated it. What I didn't
know was that it wasn't airtight!!

Funny but it might be a real situation... I once put an ortho through the
washer accidentally.

And then for you astromarters, here is the guy who tried to take his Panoptic
Apart complete with pictures....

Take it apart, clean very gently with alcohol, let dry,
put it back together correctly. Then, keep it for yourself
and buy him a new eyepiece of better quality and give it
to him and say - That eyepiece was junk, I think you should
have a better quality one.

Your question is probably irrelevant. You owe your friend a new eyepiece. If
it really was "real good" consider this an expensive lesson in eyepiece
care.
