Default How to remove mirror mounted with silicone sealer?

I have both an 8" primary and secondary which are mounted using
silicone sealer (common practice). What's the best way to remove the
mirrors from the mounts without harming the mirror?
Thanks

I just went thru that process, removing a secondary mirror. A very thin
screwdriver, prying around gently in a circle, digging depper and deeper
until you get to the center. Took about 15 minutes. Just take your time,
it'l work...

I like your solution, I'll give that a try next time.

Hi Ron-

I've used monofilament fishing line to "saw" through the silicon blobs
in the past. Works well enough for me.

If you can't find piano wire, use a guitar string (not an "E" string, too thin)
and cut through it by pulling the wire through it. Hard to describe, but easy
to do.

Glas is "wired" out of cars in this manner, and I have had no breakage in at
least twenty years doing this. Silicone is MUCH easier to cut than Urethane.

OT here, but dental floss slices quickly and easily through double-faced
tape, too...
