Under the agreement, Israel may use its Shavit satellite launcher from Brazil's Alcantara Space Center. Minister of Science and Technology Eliezer Sandberg and Brazil Minister of Science and Technology Roberto Amaral signed the agreement last April. Experts will agree, within a week, the main statutory documents of a Ukrainian-Brazilian venture on operation of these launch vehicles, will distribute work on construction of a land launching complex as well as financial contributions to implement the programme. According to preliminary data, the cost of the project is estimated at 280 million U.S. dollars. The first lift-off of Tsiklon-4 from the Alcantara cosmodrome, situated in the area of the equator, is planned to be made in 2006. The carrier will be used to put satellites, weighing up to 1.8 tonnes, into a transfer to a geostationary orbit and 5.5 tonnes into lower orbits. |
