I'm looking for an eyepiece or series that has low lateral color (this is
for a f/6.3 Tele Vue 76, which is an APO - Petzval design). As an example of what I mean, I find the lateral color in the Panoptic 24mm and Pentax XW 40mm bothersome. In the center of the field it's fine (no longitudinal color), but the lateral color steadily increases going out towards the edge of the field. This is most noticeable during the daytime when viewing light and dark objects next to each other - white birds, dark tree branches against the sky, sailboats, etc. - all of which have blue/red fringing. I'd like to have about the same AFOV as the Panoptics or Pentax XL/XWs (65-70º). I've considered looking into Leica Televid or Zeiss Diascope's spotting scope eyepieces - they have the AFOV I want, although nothing larger than about 22mm. Any comments on the Leica / Zeiss eyepieces when used with a telescope? Other low lateral color EP ideas? |

In addition to low lateral colour (relative to other WF eyepieces) they also have very low distortion, another problem that plagues other WF eyepieces. FOV are about 80 deg. -Rich |

Sorry, the 40mm is my typo - I meant a Pentax XW 30mm (had a Pentax XL 40 I'm waiting for on my mind when I wrote the original post). |
