I'm planning to get a digital camera which will be used for general
photography but I'd like the option of occasionally using it with my 10-inch f/5.8 Newtonian in the 'afocal' mode. My preference is the Olympus-C750 but I'm not sure how well it would work with my scope. What do you recommend in the $500 price range? HI,
I purchased an Olympus C4000Z 4MP camera in July and it takes very good images. The C-750 should not be any different. Be advised that it's limited to very bright things like planets and the Moon because of the 16-second exposure limit. Here's my latest image with the C4000Z: http://web.tampabay.rr.com/jsuro/saturn-12272003.htm Take Care, JAS http://web.tampabay.rr.com/jsuro/ "astrofan" wrote in message ... It should work OK so long as you have the correct adapter ring, etc. Phil |

The main things you want a - a lens that takes screw-in filters and sits close to them. That's where the adapter will be. - a lens whose entrance pupil is fairly wide. Divide the true focal length by the f-number to get this figure. For instance, 21 mm divided by f/2 would give you a 10.5-mm entrance pupil, plenty big. Beware of tiny lenses. I have had good results with a Nikon Coolpix 990 and an Olympus C-2020Z, neither of which is a current model. Others will be able to tell you about currently available cameras. -- Clear skies, Michael Covington -- www.covingtoninnovations.com Author, Astrophotography for the Amateur and (new) How to Use a Computerized Telescope |
