Default asteroids - Skycharts/Cartes du Ciel help

Perhaps it's listed by number or a different label?
Just guessing... Ask Rod, he would definitely know...

hi,

quick simple question .. what do I have to do to be able to locate

asteroids
with Cartes du ciel? I have v 2.75 by the way.

I have tried a few things, but w/o success.

Also, the file the program downloads from the harvard site doesn't contain
ceres (?? - this looks like a problem with the site, not CdC) and the file
is placed into cat\planet\ASTEROIDS.DAT

for some reason I can't get this catalog to show up in CdC or load.

I must be dense, can someone help me out please?

Thanks,
Esmail
PS: There is a yahoo group for this program, but it seems it's only used
for announcments by Patrick.

the download from the Harvard site only contains data for bright asteroids
at opposition during the current year. for the complete list, download the
much larger astorb.dat file from the Lowell site. to get asteroids to show
on your charts, you need to select them from the catalog list just like
comets.

peace,
jon

Howdy:

Yes...

The asteroid system is a little different in Cartes du Ciel from what you may
be used to.

1. Go to the "Preferences" menu and click "Catalog and Object Parameters".
Select the "Asteroids" tab. Select the asteroid or asteroids you're interested
in from the list. As with other Win apps, you can click, click/ctrl, or
click/shift to select one or many as desired. Click OK. They'll now be
displayed.

2. To search for your asteroids, click the little binocular icon, click the
Solar System tab, and then "Asteroids" button. Highlight the one you want and
OK. You'll be taken there.

3. To speed things up, don't display more asteroids than necessary.

There are multiple places to download element sets from the MPC (not
Harvard) site. It seems you were downloading the elements of bright
minor planets at opposition in a given year. This is a very small file
( 100 sets of elements). If you want the complete
set of elements, follow the link to the MPC Orbit Database on the main
MPC page (http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/mpc.html).

: Got it jon

: Thank you!
