Is anyone familiar with the 6" scopes available through ebay,
specifically the green/blue/red/black models numbered 1501400 via
taximarket?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tegory=28 181

I'm most curious about the lense quality and overall value for the $.

I would appreciate any comments, both good and bad.

Thank You,

Win

I am not familiar with the scopes, but am familiar with EBay. Go to a
reputable telescope dealer.
Clear, Dark, Steady Skies!
(And considerate neighbors!!!)

I don't know anything about this telescope, as I don't recognize the brand
nor have I ever used it. I believe, although I could be wrong, that there
was a thread several months ago about the low quality of the mirrors.
Nevertheless, if you're going to buy a new telescope and spend significant
dollars to get it, you should consider buying from a reputable telescope
dealer. He will guide you through the transaction and usually will try to
sell you the telescope that's right for you. Additionally, if your
telescope turns out to be a lemon, the dealer will see that the problem is
corrected. Do you think this guy on ebay will do that?

The green ones aren't ripe. The black ones are overripe.
And you don't want to know what is growing on the blue ones.

I would shop around for a name brand scope if I were you. This dealer
has a high feedback rating and you would probably get the scope as
advertised with decent service and support from TaxiMarket. However,
the manufacturer of the scope is not specified so it's kind of an
unknown quantity. In addition, note that the longish f/9.3 focal
length in a "short tube" format means that the focuser likely contains
a focal extender lens. This implies two drawbacks:

1. a cheap focal extender permanently stuck in the light path, not
good
2. a fast primary mirror, which is difficult to make to good quality

f9.3?

but it looks like the numbers are faked - the tube isn't long enough for
a 6in f9.

It's probably equivalent to f9 after the focal extender is applied.

If you could grab one cheap, you'd have a nice platform to install a good
parabolic short focus mirror in.
