Just don't even think about loosening the RA and DEC clamps!

The mount looks a lot like those sold by Orion and the like, and
that it's about ready to collapse!

Alan

you're right, this has got to be a joke or trick photography!

Look at the shadow on the grounbd under the mount.... no big dark shadow from
an OTA

If the finder scope really is an 8x50mm, then the main telescope tube
must be somewhere around 16 inches OD!? Maybe they could save some
weight and bulk by using a smaller tube. :-) BTW, the larger
refractor is a photo-guidescope, right? :-)

I did some comparisons using an image processor and it looks to me like they
inadvertantly used the 12.5" OTA.

The image of the 8" F4 that's on the more robust mount is a dead giveaway.
Just look at the finder scope and guidescope.

Probably not a joke, but a mistake.

The mount is just fine. It's even got a bit of spare capacity.
It's made from that new Tritanium Duobonic Aluminium Alloy.

Not only that, but the main OTA seems to be a Scewt (SCT + Newt). Notice the 2
focusers and eyepieces, one at the front and one at the rear; it doesn't look
like it has a Coude focus.

'Tis probably a gag.

It's a Cassegrain-Newtonian, just like the Wyeth reflector at Oak Ridge in
Harvard, MA, it has both focuses, by swapping the secondary.

Must be some sort of heavy metal in the counterweight. Maybe the UN
should inspect it.

Convertible Newtonian-Cassegrains have been around for a long time. That's
what that telescope looks like.
