Uh-oh! This is new for me. Do you mean, Anthony, that it is *necessary* to
set the camera on macro mode for afocal projection? May this be the reason
if I don't see the object correctly focused on the LCD display? I use an
Olympus Camedia 3040Z and to have the object focused I should press half-way
the shoot button. Otherwise, I have to take the picture and replay it on the
display and then correct the focus by trial-and-error.

Clear skies,

It's a nice digicam for sure.

I'm not aware or any digital camera software that would adjust focus,
but infinity is a pretty good focus setting in matters astronomy.

Quite right.

Software does exist to control the Coolpix camera via a PC for
both triggering exposures as well as helping with focus. For the latter,
the video port from the Coolpix is fed into the video slot of the PC and
the terminal is used to display the image for more critical focus and in
lieu of the very small LCD at the back of the Coolpix.

Further info and details for the FREE software provided to this
effect by a gentleman named Greg Pruden is available at

Hi John,

Great stuff. Thanks, Anthony! I've also used and use a large screen TV
for critical focus work.

Glad to be of help. The software provided by Greg is excellent!

BTW, how's the latest analemma project coming?

Get ready for lots and lots of analemmas as we are approaching
the end .... end of December is A-day! :-)

I am surprised and impressed that you remembered?!

Anthony.
