Default New ETX 90 AT too loud?

I just got my new ETX 90AT today. I am not new to astronomy or telescopes.
I just did a play routine to check the functions of the scope, and while
tracking, it is very loud...groaning. I know they are bound to be louder
than the LX series, but I am almost worried something is wrong. When
slewing it hums high and loud, but getting close it groans as if overloaded.
Tracking is loud and groaning. Just how loud are these things? I am taking
it outside soon to check it out and make sure it is even tracking properly.

TIA

It's supposed to groan -- but how loud? Constant, relatively quiet creaking
is what I recall from the ETX 90 that I tested at length.

Sounds like a normal ETX-90. Mine sounds like a miniature ready-mix truck
sometimes. At other times, it's fairly quiet.

Hi:

Well...they are a _little_ loud during tracking...but I like to think the noise
my ETX makes sounds sorta like the background bridge sounds on the old Star
Trek series rather than "groaning." I suspect what you are hearing is normal.

Peace,

It was loud enough when I called Meade that while just tracking they could
hear it two foot away over the phone. They thought it was static on my
phone line.... It works ok after the first light test. We will see what
happens.

Another thing I noticed... I just sold my original (one of the first) ETX,
and it was much more solid and smooth, the focus seems to almost bind...not
very smooth. I half wish I would have kept my original ETX.....

Thanks again all

Clear skies,

Jeremy

Hey Rod:

Do you use clothespins to hold playing cards to click against the spokes so
that when you ride your bicycle it sounds like a "real" Motorcycle?

Just wondering.... g

Does that ever bring back memories!! I can't even imagine how many of my
parents new decks of cards I rendered useless.

Not me, I just stick my tongue through my lips and make motorcycle sounds that
way.
