Hi guys,
I've been watching this NG for some time and am thoroughly impressed! A little cowed, since I'm sort of a newbie. Actually, "older person getting back into a childhood fantasy", let's say, and forget a lot and stuff has changed. Anyway, I'm planning on a 12" f/5-f/6 Newt to be bought rough ground and the rest done by me. I have to make this a take-down 'cause I MUST travel to use it worth a dam. I'm not quite a Dob fan yet, maybe later. May have to do it that way. The question at this point is, how do I find info on designing a truss mount for this bucket-to-be? Truss mounting for home scopes is a totally new concept for me and I haven't the foggiest idea how to design something like this. Thanks a lot! james |

Look out for Kriege and Berry's "Building a Large Dobsonian Telescope" I found it most helpful when planning mine, see http://mysite.freeserve.com/jc_atm/ good luck, jc --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. In addition to the Dobsonian book, there have been a few articles in the past few years of Sky and Telescope on building travel scopes in that size or thereabouts. I don't have the issues here with me to check month and year, but they shouldn't be that hard to find in a library.
