Default Meade SN-8 vs Celestron C8-NGT?

Hello everybody.
I'm looking at these two telescopes (Meade SN-8 & Celestron C8-NGT),
and I was wondering if anybody has seen a comparison, or has some
personal experience. Both are 8" Newtonians (the Meade is a
Schmidt-Newtonian). The Celestron is an f/5, while the Meade is an
f/4. Both are GoTo...

Any enlightment is appreciated!

Happy gazing.

The Meade is off limits! The optics are not too bad, but the mount sucks
lemons. While the Celestron is a better all around rig, it's still
seriousely under mounted. The Celestron mount is only a CG5 with GOTO and
the OTA cries for more beef.

Hi:

My advice is to avoid the LXD55 until Meade improves the quality/QA on the
LXD55 mount.

Rod:

It the Celestron 8 inch F5 OTA similar to the one you have? How are the optics
in that scope

Hi:

Mine are at around 1/8 wave, give or take. Surprisingly good. If I hadn't been
doing so much Mars imaging, I'd have probably used it on the Red Planet
more--it delivered an amazingly good image. But at f/5 I had to resort to
stacking barlows to get the image scale I wanted, and the SCT was just easier
to use.
