This month I've held over the Skyhound feature article about observing
the moons of Mars. I rewrote it recently based on my own successful experience and those of others. Although Mars will begin to shrink as the month continues it is still an excellent opportinuty. There have seen several reliabe reports of Deimos detections in a 6-inch and even a 4-inch! Deep Sky Observing ideas "In the Eyepiece:" * A fine globular cluster (M2) * The largest planetary nebula (The Helix) * A very overlooked planetary in Cepheus (NGC 7139) * An interesting combination of HII and reflection nebulae (The Cocoon) * A challenging gravitational lens (Einstein's Cross) Comet chasing information and finder charts: C/2002 O7 (LINEAR): A southern hemisphere morning comet visible in small telescopes C/2002 T7 (LINEAR): A morning comet visible in an 8-inch telescope C/2001 Q4 (NEAT): A southern hemisphere morning comet visible in a 14-inch telescope C/2001 HT50 (LINEAR-NEAT): A morning comet visible in a 14-inch telescope C/2002 Y1 (Juels-Holvorcem): A southern hemisphere morning comet visible in a 14-inch telescope As always, follow this link for the full articles: http://www.skyhound.com/sh/skyhound.html Clear skies, Greg -- Greg Crinklaw Astronomical Software Developer Cloudcroft, New Mexico, USA (33N, 106W, 2700m) SkyTools Software for the Observer: http://www.skyhound.com/cs.html Skyhound Observing Pages: http://www.skyhound.com/sh/skyhound.html |
