From above:

Hanley said on Nov. 3 he has recommended to NASA headquarters that
the Ares I-Y test planned for March 2014 be canceled because the
J-2X engine needed to propel the upper stage won't be ready in
time to support that test date. The problem is money, he said.

That's more than 4 years away and the J-2X still won't be ready for a test
flight? The J-2X was supposed to be relatively easy and cheap to develop
since it is based on the Apollo era J-2 engine.

I wonder what the politicians will think about this latest delay...

Tell me about movies that have been "based" on a book. How many are
even close to the storyline? MER was based on Pathfinder. In the
end, there was only one common part.

It's the politicians that have decided not to fund any more of this folly.

"Bob Ess, the Ares I-X mission manager, will oversee the I-X prime study.
Expected to take about two months,

Two months, that's all the Vision for Space Exploration has left in
it's tank.
