I took a look at Mars this weekend through my C102 and was very
delighted with the view. I was using an 8mm Radian about 125X. Though the image was a little dark (my small aperture) after a few minutes I was able to see a lot of detail on the planet along with the polar ice cap. Bruce |

That's great Bruce! Try to increase the magnification to 150x - 200x
and use a #21 or #23 filter. You maybe surprised at what the C102 can do. Ron B[ee] -------------- "B" wrote in message ... talking about filters: what filters (for Mars observations) can/should I use
with a ETX105? "Ron B[ee]" wrote in message news:39QZa.31928$ff.8736@fed1read01... That's great Bruce! Try to increase the magnification to 150x - 200x and use a #21 or #23 filter. Well, I would try those that won't cut down the transmission too much.
I have great success with #21, #23 (now that Mars is soooo bright) and #80A filter (I think I need a #38 now that Mars is soooo bright too). A former favorite was a #23A light red filter. An orange filter would also be worth considering for that size telescope. Other filters can be beneficial for certain specific features; but the above is IMO a good 'short list' of the best overall Mars filters for use with small to medium aperture telescopes. Bill Greer |
