How many people still read the Weekly Bulletin via s.a.a.? I have to
assess the cost/benefit ratio of providing this service. (You can
always get it mailed to you directly by registering at
SkyandTelescope.com)

Well, I do. And I am not inclined to provide a permanent E-mail address
to a foreign organisation which I have no particular need to trust -
especially one that may have a marketing department.

You can always use the mail services at
http://mailinator.com/ .... g

When such a service is stopped, it would be courteous to put a suitably
conspicuous notice to that effect in the last few issues.

Tony,

I have been reading the Weekly Bulletin on SAA for a long time - really look forward to it
on this forum and the occasional ensuing discussions.

Will the postings be continued? Certainly hope so.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Doug

That's a legitimate concern. But note that the Weekly Bulletin is
nothing more than a synopsis of all stories posted on our website over
the week, and the website can be accessed anonymously.

When such a service is stopped, it would be courteous to put a suitably
conspicuous notice to that effect in the last few issues.

True, but the interruption was inadvertent. I'll either resume the
postings or make an official policy to end them.

I had thought of s.a.a. as rather moribund -- which it certainly is
compared to 5 or 10 years ago. But there have been a surprising number
of substantive postings in the last couple of weeks, so maybe all is
not lost.

Dear Tony,

Please know that, indeed, your postings here and the availability
in s.a.a. of the weekly bulletin are most deeply appreciated as
a group of dedicated observers strive to preserve and enhance
this most valuable forum.

Earlier this year I had a special thrill when I observed
NGC 2548 (M48), my first Caroline Herschel object. Your
outstanding article on some of the joys and open questions
raised by her observations from your viewpoint as a
seasoned amateur added excitement to the process. Needless
to say, it was a great pleasure to report my M48 session
here.

In order to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio, I'd like
to focus my posts especially on practical observing topics,
thus striving humbly to follow in your footsteps and those
of many other experienced observers here who have created
a tradition which should be continued and carried further.

With many thanks,

Margo
