Do you have a deep interest in science and want to help create a vast repository that contains all of NASA's media? Are you interested in developing new and innovative ways to make this material more accessible? The Internet Archive, a non-profit digital library, is looking for a talented Web Engineer to work on the NASA Images Project. In partnership with NASA, the Internet Archive is gathering 50 years worth of still photography, film, video and audio created by NASA and building an online digital archive of these materials so they will be accessible to the public. The initial site was recently launched. You can see it at nasaimages.org. The person who fills this position will have complete responsibility for the technical aspects of the project. This includes creating tools for and managing the process of ingesting massive amounts of photos, videos and audio, along with its associated metadata, as well as some sys admin-type responsibilities for maintaining and evolving the back-end infrastructure. We are looking for someone with the following qualifications and experience: - Ability to write and analyze software, and is language agnostic - A computer science degree or equivalent experience writing software - Flexibility; enjoys learning and using new technology - Understands JavaScript & html - Can work with server-side Java - Has a familiarity with development environments such as Eclipse - Posses database experience - Has solid Linux skills - Likes Open Source software - Posses some experience with cluster computing / load balancing - Comfortable integrating multiple software environments - Can communicate clearly and work collaboratively We are located in the beautiful Presidio of San Francisco.
