Default Web Engineer/NASA Images Project

I've been asked from two sides (both at the day job and at the Archive)
to try to find some qualified talent. Let me be frank: EVERY person who
applied in the first round was rejected. No on-the-job-training. This
has the nod from various bureaucratic levels. If you think that you are
up to the task, email Jennifer.

Would you like to work for an engineering-focused organization that's
dedicated to providing universal access to human knowledge? Do you have a
deep interest in science and want to help create a vast repository that
contains all of NASA's media? Are you interested in developing new and
innovative ways to make this material more accessible?

The Internet Archive, a non-profit digital library, is looking for a
talented Web Engineer to work on the NASA Images Project. In partnership
with NASA, the Internet Archive is gathering 50 years worth of still

The person who fills this position will have complete responsibility for the

managing the process of ingesting massive amounts of photos, videos and
audio, along with its associated metadata, as well as some sys admin-type
responsibilities for maintaining and evolving the back-end infrastructure.

- Flexibility; enjoys learning and using new technology
- Understands JavaScript & html
- Can work with server-side Java
- Has a familiarity with development environments such as Eclipse
- Posses database experience
- Has solid Linux skills
- Likes Open Source software
- Posses some experience with cluster computing / load balancing
- Comfortable integrating multiple software environments
- Can communicate clearly and work collaboratively

We are located in the beautiful Presidio of San Francisco.

About the Internet Archive The Internet Archive is a non-profit digital
library committed to preserving the world's digital cultural artifacts. Used
by over 6 million people, this resource is becoming part of how the Internet
works. Our job is to put the best humanity has to offer within reach of
students, educators and the general public. Find out more about our
organization and web archive at www.archive.org http://www.archive.org

The Internet Archive is an equal opportunity employer. We provide medical
and dental benefits. Please send your resume and cover letter to
with the subject line "Web Engineer - NASA Images
Project". The Internet Archive thanks all applicants for their interest, but
advises that only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
No phone calls please.
