Pretty good seeing for this set. All imaged at less than 30 degrees above
the horizon. 8 inch scope, 2x barlow and about 1000 frames stacked in each. |

Thanks Rod. I just looked at your last Jupiter image. Very nice and I like
your processing too. Maybe Gustav will steer clear of you and you'll have good seeing for awhile. I've been meaning to put a comparison together since I noticed something over the last month in regards to Jupiter. The Great Red Spot has developed a "black eye". It seems to be interacting more with the SEB and the outer edge of the GRS is now darkened. I need to go back over my images from years past and find a good shot to make a comparison to what it is now. Jupiter has really been undergoing some changes the past year. |

Thanks J Warren - I am still sweating Gustav and thought I'd be evac'ing
the telescope to my work building within 96 hours but I'm feeling better now. I'm more worried about John G tonight looking at the new model outputs. Yes I agree about the "black eye", I've been noting that feature(?) as well but was not sure if it might not be an artifact of my basic camera. I have not come up with a name for that feature but that's a good one. Although I have a "cheap" color camera, I've been recently splitting the output into rgb. I still need to check this but I think my green channel shows the black eye the best (please don't hold me to that). Jupiter is a fascination subject indeed. George Normandin who for many years moderated this group long tried to get me to tune into the "near sky" because of where I live. He was right. I'm now saving for a "professional" camera and building my own "cat cooler" and so on and so forth. - thank you for your kind words - Rod J. Warren wrote: Thanks Rod. Joel, this would be very good even if Jupiter was high in the sky...
