This is a bit of a continuation of this previous thread (Google Groups
link): http://tinyurl.com/59coy3 The previous thread was about how certain planets seem to be ideally setup for spawning life. One of the characteristics of such a planet (such as Earth) is that it's got a magnetic field. There was some controversy as to how important the magnetic field is to the development of life. This article seems to indicate that the magnetic field is pretty important.
