sci.physics: On Tue, 5 Aug 2008 16:25:21 +0100, "Androcles" Pulsars are real enough, that's not data that can be faked. But when another body is sharing orbit with one (as is the norm with our own solar system, one star and 10 planets plus a host of comets and asteroids) the cranks jump to the conclusion that they have a double sun/star/pulsar. The reason they do that is when the object is moving away from us the pulses are red-shifted by Doppler, each pulse arriving later than it normally does. Then later, when the object is moving toward us, we see a blue shift, the time between pulses decreases. What they've failed to realise is that given the correct distance the slow pulses and fast pulses can arrive here at exactly the same, giving the illusion of two objects. That is because they have absolute faith in one speed of light. I've graphed that he http://www.androcles01.pwp.blueyonde...s/Distance.gif The only changing parameter is the distance, it's as if we are accelerating away from the pulsar. See how the blue and the red overlap? Doppler has already told them c +v f' = f * ------------ c Louis, I jerk chains a lot I know, but if you want to get at the truth you have to model the situation with a computer and do it exactly. I did that 20 years ago and produced a Windows version in 1993-4, (before win 95). http://www.androcles01.pwp.blueyonde...rnicus/LCV.htm The program still lives, you can download it. It was written before there were any viruses floating around to scare people off. Today you can even find my spreadsheet for a Keplerian orbit, the only one of its kind. http://www.androcles01.pwp.blueyonde...rbit/Orbit.xls With internet explorer you can even change two of its parameters (in the yellow boxes), proving that it works and I know what I'm talking about. I'll take a closer look at this stuff. It does make sense to me that light of different frequencies would travel at different speeds thereby creating all sorts of illusions. All the business about Big bangs, accelerating expansions and the like look more like a bunch of illusions based on false assumptions about the speed of light over great distances. Louis Savain Rebel Science News: http://rebelscience.blogspot.com/ Perhaps it is too late for doing anything in cosmology. Yes the introduction of different speeds of light is the way to clean the crap but not after cosmology has become Augean Stables where any Hercules would fail. And, besides, Einsteiniana's control over education guarantees that nobody would even try to become Hercules: http://www.bnl.gov/community/Tours/TYSaDTW.asp "Take Your Sons and Daughters to Work Day....Afternoon brought a special production of Einstein! Einstein!....Herr Professor Doctor Doctor (brilliant and handsome, but lacking a well-stuck mustache) explains physics.....The lecture was followed by a rousing game of "That's my Theory!" Herr Doctor introduced three scientists who all claimed to be Einstein. Each of the scientists answered questions about themselves -- and their theories -- and the audience was asked to figure out which one was really "Einstein.".....The audience applauded to vote which scientist they thought was "Einstein." Professor Chanteuse led the audience in singing "Divine Einstein" while the scientists changed into their real costumes......Einstein explains that imagination is more important than knowledge. Einstein! Einstein! He's our man! led by volunteers from the audience. Einstein! Einstein! He's our man! If he can't solve it, no one can!" http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig6/ingdahl2.html "But there has been a marked global decrease of students willing to study physics, and funding has decreased accordingly. Not only that, the best students are not heading for studies in physics, finding other fields more appealing, and science teachers to schools are getting scarcer in supply. In fact, warning voices are being heard about the spread of a "scientific illiteracy" where many living in technologically advanced societies lack the knowledge and the ability for critical thinking in order to function in their daily environment." http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/20.../22/schools.g2 "We are nearing the end of the "World Year of Physics", otherwise known as Einstein Year, as it is the centenary of his annus mirabilis in which he made three incredible breakthroughs, including special relativity. In fact, it was 100 years ago yesterday that he published the most famous equation in the history of physics: E=mc2. But instead of celebrating, physicists are in mourning after a report showed a dramatic decline in the number of pupils studying physics at school. The number taking A-level physics has dropped by 38% over the past 15 years, a catastrophic meltdown that is set to continue over the next few years. The report warns that a shortage of physics teachers and a lack of interest from pupils could mean the end of physics in state schools. Thereafter, physics would be restricted to only those students who could afford to go to posh schools. Britain was the home of Isaac Newton, Michael Faraday and Paul Dirac, and Brits made world- class contributions to understanding gravity, quantum physics and electromagnetism - and yet the British physicist is now facing extinction. But so what? Physicists are not as cuddly as pandas, so who cares if we disappear?" Pentcho Valev |
