NGC 5218 (top) and NGC 5216 (below) are an interacting galaxy pair in UMa.
The most notable feature here is the tidal tail between the two galaxies, which is several times larger than the galaxies themselves. Taken from the middle of Berlin with a 10" Meade ACF at f/6.4 on a G11 mount, SXV-H9 camera, 47x5 minutes. The picture can also be found at http://ccd-astronomy.de/temp/5218-47x5gut.jpg Stefan |

I'm getting clear skies by day and rain by night. Very frustrating. That one was on my list last year and was overlooked. So far weather hasn't cooperated this year. By the time it is in position the moon is too bright or clouds roll in. You caught the arm between them. It's darned faint. Rick -- Correct domain name is arvig and it is net not com. I wonder if I could get that tail from the ranch site? it is considerably darker than my backyard in castro valley "Stefan Lilge" wrote in message ... Richard,
your recent galaxy pictures with the AP180 from the ranch are much deeper than anything I could get here in the city, so I guess recording the tail wouldn't be a problem for you.
