As for Min, what needs to happen is for us to find a hacker who'll help track Min down and expose his true identity. Once that happens, we'll have a clear path to take actions that will eliminate him from usenet once and for all... OM -- "No ******* ever won a war by dying for | http://www.io.com/~o_m his country. Well, the Russians did it - after Apollo 11's reflector had been detected - and there was a proposal to mount one on a Surveyor. Which doesn't alter the fact that reflectors were deployed and documented by manned missions, even though the conspiracy nuts say the documentation photographs show they are faked. -- Rabbit arithmetic - 1 plus 1 equals 10 Remove spam and invalid from address to reply. |

![]() Herb Schaltegger wrote: Cue Pat Flannery - we want a writeup on the origin of poor young Brad's fears of radiation and Atomic Annihilation. It all started when Brad was just a kid; he had been outside talking to the cloud animals, and carefully writing down what they said back to him...suddenly, one of the cloud animals threw a lightning bolt at him, striking him in the head....at the same moment, a black Cadillac broke to a halt next to him- the strange purplish glow of its interior illuminating the two occupants with a sickly pallor. "Help me..." Brad gasped, his forehead riven by the thunderbolt, his brainwaves tied in a square-knot. Two figures emerged into the light of day from the car; both were dressed entirely in black, and wore dark sunglasses. "The planet Venus is more often mistaken for a UFO than any other object in the sky." -said the first. Brad, not knowing quite what to make of this in his electrically-dazed state, asked: "Could you take me to the hospital?" "I'm glad you phrased that as a question." -said the second: "After a few X-rays....and a little radiation therapy.....they'll know _exactly_ what to do with you." And this was the answer to the question: "How did Brad Guth's boyhood jeopardy bring him into contact with the future Governor of Minnesota?" Pat |

![]() Brad Guth replied: "Sean Massey" wrote in message ... [...] "The mechanisms for the lunar recession have been well understood for decades. In a nutshell, tides cause friction between the oceans and the ocean floors, which transfers energy from the solid part of the earth to the oceans. One of the effects of this friction is that the tidal bulge is off-center, and is located "eastward" of the moon. (So the high tide actually occurs when the moon is west of overhead.) The result of the tidal bulge being off center is that there is a torgue effect placed on the moon, and this in turn transfers energy from the earth to the moon. warning, paragraph chopped The earth's spin rate slows, the moon is speeded in its orbit and therefor moves further away from the earth. This is half right, the moon does gain energy, but father orbits have lower orbital speeds. Orbital dynamics are strange. When a spacecraft fires the retros, against the direction of motion, it falls into a lower orbit, and speeds up. When a spacecraft fires it's rockets in the direction of the orbit, it goes into a higher orbit, and slows down. The moon obeys the same laws. Rich (This transfer of energy is essentially a transfer of angular momentum, which is a conserved quantity.) The historical (over geological eras) rate of recession has varied due to varying amounts of tidal friction due to shallower or deeper oceans, and the positions of the continents." For the benefit of all my loyal critics, I've conceded that there's a darn good chance that the likes of Tim Thompson has more than a few valid points as to his version of what's what. This following page is just another example of my learning from the pros, of accepting other input, which may even including the likes of what you've just presented, that I'd not be calling flak, as there actually seems to be some considerable worth to at least Tim's version of the lunar recession, if I don't say so myself. http://guthvenus.tripod.com/earth-moon-energy.htm Regards, Brad Guth / IEIS~GASA http://guthvenus.tripod.com |
