Check in sci.astro.amateur, I started a thread about the a 5i vs an 8i. I
am going with an 8i. . .

I will actually get to see it tomorrow, but my take on it is that it is the
most portable 8" scope you will find. Some people question the tripod (it
is used for the 5i as well) but it also depends on what you use it for
(astrophotography...).

For me, I need a scope that has little setup, small storage space (so I can
bring it on camping trips), light weight, and priced right. I think the
Meade LX90 is a better scope (even the LX10) but too big and bulky,
requiring a pretty good sized carrying case to haul around.

I am going with the XLT coatings although I doubt if anyone could actually
'see' the difference. Celestron's claims are basically that the coatings
are a small percentage better, meaning most of us won't know the difference.

Good luck.

Hi,

I wanted to get opinions on Celestron, especially the Nexstar 8i?

Any information would be great help.

Thanks,

Michael
