With the "certificate" they received, they should have had something that
gave them a Right Ascension / Declination or Altitude / Azimuth coordinate,
or something like that. Perhaps it had Galactic Coordinates, but there
would have been something.

Given any of the above, the star is able to be located (given that it is
oriented for your hemisphere, or latitude)...
