The orbital plane of the Earth should be represented in the graphic accompanying the image by a line equidistant to orbital North and South using the circle of illumination as a gauge and the direction of the Earth's motion around the Sun. This would help explain why the North and South poles traverse the fully illuminated face of the Earth in sequence and from one Equinox to the other.
