the future so that we could destroy it. I honestly wonder what
Crichton had to say when he read that script.

all that, while I did applaud the attempt to add racial diversity to
the Wildfire team, they could have simply kept Ruth Levitt as she was
in the original film and filled that particular minority slot.

Well, the original did not need a remake. Nevertheless, the remake
was done well enough and managed to incorporate some more modern
context. Now if they really wanted to hit some hot buttons and
generate a lot of buzz, they could have had Andromeda be an anti gay
virus developed by an ultra right wing religious organization of the
future...
