Telsa was not all that famous in his time.Edison was.Westinghouse went with
Telsa,as Edison went with DC.AC was the way to go over great distance. Kickrr
is AC is now out and DC in.My van is 100% DC.Solar 100% DC.Batteries are so
much better.Naming a car after Telsa was a great idea.Bert


There's also an SI unit called a tesla. I think it measures something in
magnetism.

Tesla was a very intelligent inventor, and he was cheated by Edison. But his
intelligence doesn't mean he understood the physics being developped around him,
including relativity and quantum mechanics.

Also Tesla was not trying to do free electricity in the sense of violating
conservation of energy. He was trying to do unmetered electricity by pumping up
the potential difference between the sky and soil; then anywhere people could
short the difference for local power. I don't understand electrivity enough to
critique that.


Electrical resistance increases faster with current than potential difference,
while power remains constant if they are in a reciprocal relation. That means
efficient transmission requires converting to low current/high potential
difference, but that potential difference would short customer wiring and
equipment, so the power is constant but the current raised and potential
difference lowerred. At the same time DC transmission is more efficient because
it uses the whole conductor instead of the surface.

In Tesla's time there was no efficient (or any at all?) way to transform
potential difference with DC, however it's very easy to do with AC. Nowadays we
have efficient DC transformers to exploit efficient DC cables.
