After reading the story, I think the most likely possibility is that some loon
mailed flour or sugar to them, claiming it was weaponized anthrax.

They wouldn't evacuate over a computer virus, and solar observatories don't deal
in secrets (the notion of an apocalyptic solar flare is too remote to take
seriously).


Might be related to some cyber security issue. A lot of observatories
like this are on a dedicated, very high speed subnet of the broader
Internet. Maybe somebody used it inappropriately.


In any case, the FBI isn't talking.
